Adopt a Trail
The Pocatello Parks and Recreation Outdoor Recreation Department staff and some very dedicated volunteers from the Pocatello Cross-Country Ski Foundation do most of the trail maintenance and grooming at the Nordic Center. With over 35 kilometers of groomed trails, keeping snow on the trails and keeping up with the grooming is quite the task.
The Nordic Center needs your help!
Winter Projects
Winter projects include cutting back brush from the trail, removing any rocks or debris from trails and shoveling snow back into bare patches especially on Dayley’s Didaction, Creekside and the race course loop.
Summer/Fall Projects
Yearly maintenance to improve and maintain trails also occurs during the summer and fall months. Projects include brushing the trails along with widening and leveling the trails which makes grooming easier and provides a better overall skiing experience.

General Notes: There still is plenty of skiing to be had. Yesterday's fun race offered some of the fastest skiing of the season. The coverage is very nice and "race skis" can still be used on most trails. Don't be fooled by warm spring-like conditions in town. There is still lots of snow.
Watch out for ice on Creekside. When I groomed down there around noon there was about 1" of new snow on ice in many places. Shoveling would pay huge dividends down there. I have seen two people throwing snow down there, but there are many areas which need attention. Keeping dirt covered up will make the skiing last longer there. Anything dark exposed on the trails will make them melt exponentially faster. The skiing is only as good as we can make it.
Dog Update: Please note dog trail map and poop bags as you walk in from parking lot on your left. (Watch out for "Redneck Ruts") Trails have also been signed as "DOGS" and "NO DOGS." Please respect the grooming and volunteers by obeying dog trails. It is a privilege to ski with your dog at a nordic center.
PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE A-FRAME OR SIGN IN EVEN IF YOU HAVE A PASS. USE NUMBERS MATTER. PLACE YOUR VOTE FOR THE NORDIC CENTER TODAY AND EVERYDAY!
The trail system is only as good as we make it. Please volunteer! Opportunities available year round. Contact: Andy 233-2805
New trails to look for this season: We have added a few small conector trails around Mule Deer and added a trail to access the flat gorund around the creek below. It will be interesting to get down there and a bit of a pull to get out, but once you are there, there will be plenty of FLAT skiing. Something the nordic center really needs. In the future, I will be working on trying to make a more user friendly trail. Due to time constraints of access, this is the best we could do this year. Two new small loops have been added to Canyon with the idea to break up the climb and add some distance to the grind.
2008 Trail Work Days Volunteers came out of the wood work Saturday November 8th! We had 20 volunteers come up for the day and worked very hard on the trails. We have had some new faces and some old reliable ones. Thank you to all who participated. A very special thank you to the folks from ISU. You were a huge bonus and please keep us in mind for future volunteer projects. We were able to accomplish a variety of projects including new trail construction, snow fence installation, and fire wood moving and stacking. It is very encouraging to have such a force working on the trail. We are able to get so much done. Hope you enjoy the new trails and the hard work done this winter.
Fall 2008 Work Day Volunteers!
Please consider volunteerism as an important component of your cross-country skiing activity, regardless of how small. And continue utilization of Mink Creek Nordic Center and offering feedback..., the area does depend upon it!
