2011 Mink Creek Trail Update
Great volunteerism prevailed once again this Fall at Mink Creek with both days seeing 20-30 volunteers with additional people wanting to work alternate days. As a result the trails are in great shape and there is lots of wood to burn in the yurt and A-frame. Creekside saw improvements in the form of widening/rerouting around some of the beaver flows. Additionally there was a new small loop cut on the west side of the creek and an alternate trail down from Mule Deer to eliminate the infamous “S turn.” This reroute will require significant snow to be pushed/shoveled into the drainage before it will be usable though. Canyon and Lemon Loop saw widening. Screamer got a reroute in hopes to eliminate the off camber section. Don’t worry, it should still live up to its name. The corner was feathered on the Mule Deer-Rough Grouse intersection as was Meadow-Upper Canyon. The City did the best mowing job I have ever seen on all the trails which will mean we will be skiing earlier and later without running into grass and brush whippets. Additionally the Ski Foundation purchased an industrial strength weed whacker from C&J Power Equipment in American Falls. This new tool was put to use on the work days by clearing grass and brush on the sides of the trails. Many loads of bark was hauled and distributed around rough spots, mole mounds were raked and snow fences were repaired. Lastly the sign kiosk was moved to the edge of the trails where it should be more visible for postings.
