What a year! I know it's June, but I can't get rid of the pictures!

Lachy and Sara caught goofing off again up at Mink Creek.
This March, (not to mention April) demonstrates how far we've come from a few years ago when the skiing would have been long over under similiar conditions. Thanks to the City employees and all the volunteers for help in making such great late season skiing possible.
April 5th, 2009
"Cal is my Copilot" Andy and Cal found some significantly deep and steep somewhere just up the road.

Crust Season is here: Lance Roberts skis around Bear Island with Caribou Peak as a backdrop on 3/18/09.

DIRECTIONS TO MINK CREEK
DOG UPDATE: Please note dog trails on map as you walk in by poop bag dispenser. Trails also are signed as "Dogs" and "No Dogs." Please respect the grooming and volunteers who make the skiing as good as it is by obeying the dog trails. It is a privilege to ski at a nordic center as nice as ours with your dog.

Randy has alot to smile about with skiing like this! February 26
2/22 A skier happily glides along.

TRAIL PASS IS REQUIRED TO SKI AT THE AREA REGARDLESS OF DAY OR HOUR. Trail pass money funds grooming of the area. If no one is staffing the A-frame, simply put payment in red "Donation" box near parking lot. To reduce costs, the honor system is in place. Please be honest. The survival of the area depends on it. Wouldn't you like to see the area get better? Leveler trails, grooming machinery maintained, new structures, lights...? The growth potential is endless, but we need your help. Grooming isn't free even with volunteer groomers.
NEW Junior Team Head Coach Profile: Read about the new junior coach Eric Bell and junior team update. There is a link to Eric's email on the Junior Page link if you have any questions.
Lisa Safford orchestrated the new trails on Idaho State land. These dog-friendly trails are accessed from Mule Deer. 12/26/08

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you Lisa S!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to a PXCSF member, the nordic center is expanding and adding a substantial amount of FLAT terrain. Lisa was concerned about erosion issues with motorized vehicles next to the stream and proposed the area be closed to motorized traffic. All agencies involved bought in on the project and as a bonus, the ski area was able to connect a trail down to the existing road. The new area is located on State land along the E. Fork of Mink Creek. You probably have thought as you drove up to the Nordic Center, "Why don't they groom down there?" It is a very inviting flat area along a stream.
*******THE SNOWMOBILE IS PAID OFF!!!******* Thanks to a generous donation from the Pocatello Nordic Ski Association c/0 Dana O. We have met our current fund raising goal, but donations are always welcome and needed to fund future projects such as a better trailer system for moving grooming equipment around and insurance.
Record setting trail volunteerism! Find out more....

East Fork Mink Creek Nordic Center
Located just 7 miles outside of Pocatello, ID East Mink Creek Nordic center is a dedicated nordic ski and snowshoe area. It is run and operated by the City of Pocatello through a special use permit with the United States Forest Service and through volunteer services of the Pocatello Cross-Country Ski Foundation (PXCSF). It hosts approximately 25K of groomed classic and skate trails.
Season passes are on sale at the City Parks and Recreation Offices. It is important that season pass holders sign-in at the yurt with each use, as this provides us with documentation of the necessary use numbers to justify the area staying open. There is also a red fee box located at the entrance to the trails for trail use when there is no attendant.
This off-season PXCSF has been hard at work doing all kinds of trail work and area modifications. Based on some of the feedback we received in our end-of-season-survey last year, we are just concluding the major work in developing some new trails that should make beginner and expert skiers, alike, happy.
